THE FOUNDATION OF SUCCESS

Celebrating our 92nd Year

FORWELL is a producer of sand, gravel and asphalt with operations in Kitchener and Cambridge, Ontario. Lisa Forwell is fourth generation in a Senior Management capacity, working closely with her father, Tim Forwell, who continues to take an active role in the company as Owner/Consultant.

Over the years, FORWELL has built a strong reputation for our extensive range of top quality products. Our facility is unique in its ability to be flexible in meeting our customer’s specifications. We have acquired reserve properties in Cambridge to ensure that FORWELL LIMITED will have the raw materials available to continue meeting the dynamic market requirements of this area.

As a producer of specification materials for the Ready Mix concrete, pre-cast, block industry, as well as for the road building and construction industries, our company is continually monitoring the aggregate industry with the goal of finding new opportunities to maximize the usage of our modern production facilities.

MILESTONES

1911
Joseph K. Forwell sold gravel from the family farm. His four sons, Otto, Norm, Alfred and Raymond founded the company. During this time gravel was hand shoveled onto a horse drawn wagon and delivered to customers from the family farm.

1930’s
A permanent washed sand and gravel plant was established in Waterloo (Willowells)

1948
A new stationary gravel crushing and washing plant was erected near Kitchener. This is location of our company’s Head Office.

1950’s
Alfred & Raymond Forwell continued to run the company.
Robert Forwell, son of Alfred joined the firm.

1960’s
An asphalt batching plant was purchased and is located on the Kitchener Plant site. A conveyor bridge was constructed to transport aggregate for processing. This structure was the world’s first welded aluminum bridge manufactured for the purpose of transporting gravel.

Raymond’s son, Tim Forwell, joined the firm.

A concrete block plant was built and was recognized as the most automated plant in Canada. This plant was later sold.

A new large tract of gravel reserves was purchased south of Kitchener and a 700 TPH gravel crushing and washing plant was erected. This is known as our Blair Plant.

1970’s
A second Asphalt Plant was built on the site of our Blair Gravel Plant.

1980’s
The QUIKRETE® Plant was built to manufacture and sell a complete line of packaged cementitious materials throughout Ontario.

1990’s
Tim & Robert Forwell operated the company as sole owners until Robert retired in 1996.

Lisa Forwell, daughter of Tim, joined the company. Lisa obtained her Engineering and MBA degrees and worked with a major cement and Construction Materials company for 5 years. She has assumed a Senior Management role and is President of Forwell Materials Inc.

We brought further diversification to our company with the introduction of a new bulk mortar division under the name of FORWELL BULK MORTAR INC. With all of the company growth, FORWELL expanded the QUIKRETE® facility to include an office at the Blair location.
